Yukio Hatoyama, the current party leader of Japan's Democratic Party. Born on February 11, 1947, in Tokyo, Japan, his grandfather was Ichiro Hatoyama, a former Prime Minister of Japan; his maternal grandfather, Shojiro Ishibashi, was the founder of the well-known company Bridgestone, and his father, Eisaku Hatoyama, served as the Minister for Foreign Affairs. He graduated from the University of Tokyo's Engineering Department in 1969, and obtained a Ph.D. in Engineering from Stanford University in the United States in 1976.
