When the Jin troops were advancing directly to Bianjing (today's Kaifeng City), Emperor Huizong of Northern Song Dynasty, Zhao Ji, was so angry and anxious that his health deteriorated day by day. So he passed the throne to the crown prince. The crown prince who succeeded to the throne was Emperor Qin Zong. Emperor Qin Zong, like Emperor Huizong, was also a person who sought temporary safety and did not think of self-improvement, resulting in the downfall of the Great Song Dynasty, and he himself became a captive. Those captured also included Huizong, his elder brother, younger brother, and his 32 sons and 22 daughters. Except for the ninth son, Zhao Gou, who was outside the city defending the king, and the youngest daughter who was only one year old, all of them became captives. Including the palace concubines, imperial relatives, nobles, and ministers, about 3,000 people were taken to the north by the Jin people.
It was the fourth month of the lunar calendar at the time, and it was still very cold in the north. Emperors Huizong and Qin Zong, as well as Empresses Zheng and Zhu, were wearing very thin clothes. They often couldn't sleep at night due to the cold and had to find some firewood and straw to burn for warmth. Empress Zhu, who was then 26 years old, was beautiful and graceful, and she was frequently harassed by the Jin soldiers.
When the captured personnel arrived at the capital of the Jin Dynasty, Hui Ning Fu, the Jin people held a ceremony to present the prisoners. They ordered the two emperors and their concubines, imperial relatives, princes, sons-in-law, and princesses to wear the clothing of common people in Jin. They wrapped their heads with scarves, wore sheepskin coats, and exposed their upper bodies. They went to the Ageda Temple of the Jin Dynasty to perform the "sheep-towing ritual". Empress Zhu could not bear such humiliation and committed suicide that night. The Jin people also gave the two emperors derogatory titles, calling Huizong "Hun De Gong" and Qin Zong "Chong Hun Hou".
After the two emperors were taken to the north, they were first imprisoned in Wuguo City. Because they could not bear the torture of the Jin people, one day Huizong cut his clothes into strips, tied them into a rope, and prepared to hang himself. He was brought down by Qin Zong, and the father and son cried bitterly while hugging each other. Later, the Jin people moved the two emperors to Junzhou. At this time, Huizong was already seriously ill and soon died on the earthen bed. When Qin Zong found him, his body had already stiffened. Huizong's body was placed on a stone pit and burned. When it was half-burned, water was poured to extinguish the fire, and the body was thrown into the pit. It is said that this could make the water in the pit usable as lamp oil. Qin Zong was extremely sad and wanted to jump into the pit, but he was pulled back by others who said that if a living person jumped into the pit, the water in the pit could not be used as lamp oil, so Qin Zong was not allowed to jump into the pit. Huizong was 54 years old when he died. After Huizong's death, Qin Zong continued to suffer torture and eventually died tragically in the north.
