According to the Records of the Three Kingdoms, after the death of Sun Quan, the great emperor of Eastern Wu, he was buried in Jiangling. Due to taboo regarding the name of his grandfather Sun Zhong, Sun Quan changed the name of Zhong Mountain to Jiang Mountain, and thus his tomb was called Jiangling. In the Tang Dynasty's "Jiankang Real Records", it is written that Jiangling is located on the southern slope of Zhong Mountain. In the Northern Song Dynasty's "Xiangfu Jiangning Atlas", it says that it is "at the southern foot of Zhong Mountain".
