Google updated its logo today to honor Giovanni Schiaparelli.

After a quick Google search, besides seeing one student mention it being the 174th anniversary, there doesn't seem to be anything special.
But then again, there are many famous people born on March 14, so why choose Giovanni Schiaparelli specifically?
Looking at the term after that, the Mars map – could it be that Google is using this as an opportunity to promote its own Google Mars (Google 火星)?
