In recent years, when Chinese Fishery Administration vessels were on missions in the South China Sea in areas where there are sovereignty disputes, they have on many occasions encountered threats from foreign warships. There have also been a number of incidents where Chinese fishermen have been illegally detained. Not only this, but some neighboring countries have also attempted to tighten their grip on the islands of the South China Sea through various means. In mid-February, the Philippine Congress passed the "Territorial Baseline Bill", which designated our country's Huangyan Island and parts of the reefs of the Nansha Islands as Philippine territory. On March 5th, Malaysian Prime Minister and Defense Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi landed on the Danwan Reef and Guangxingzi Reef of our country's Nansha Islands to declare Malaysia's "sovereignty" over these reefs. These actions have been protested by the Chinese government. Deputy Inspector Liu Tianrong of the Fishery Administration Bureau of the South China Sea under the Ministry of Agriculture introduced to the Global Times newspaper that through fishermen's fishing activities and the escorting of fishery administration vessels, China's declaration of sovereignty over the islands of the South China Sea has been ongoing. The official commissioning of the 311 Chinese Fishery vessel shows not only an enhancement of our country's fishery administrative capabilities, but also demonstrates our country's determination to strengthen fishery administration.
