An essay contest with as many as 1.05 million participants saw at least 500,000 entries eliminated in the initial selection process for using Internet slang. Yesterday, at the final evaluation meeting of the Hubei region for the Fourth National Secondary School Student Essay Contest, the issue of how to regulate the use of Internet slang sparked heated discussions among the judges. The organizing committee introduced that, within China's education circles, the National Secondary School Student Essay Contest is the largest in scale, highest in specification, and has the most participants. Among these, the Hubei region covers middle schools and primary schools in all cities and prefectures. The competition will select 100 special prize works from the 1.05 million entries to compete nationwide for 20 spots as "Stars of Literature."
