So who is the author of "Dream of the Red Chamber"? The school of thought represented by Mr. Wang Mengruan's "Dream of the Red Chamber Index" was the first to put forward the theory that "Dream of the Red Chamber" was written by Emperor Shunzhi, Fulin, for Consort Donggo. Scholars of this school believed that Consort Donggo was actually Dong Xiaowan, a famous courtesan from the Qinhuai River area. She was originally a concubine of the renowned scholar Mao Pijiang, but was later taken by the Qing army and sent to Beijing, where she became one of Emperor Shunzhi's consorts and received his favor. After Consort Donggo fell ill and died, Emperor Shunzhi was so heartbroken that he ran away to Mount Wutai to become a monk. In "Dream of the Red Chamber", Jia Baoyu is Emperor Shunzhi himself, and Lin Daiyu is Consort Dong.
