1. Naming by flavor. Some restaurants not only include a surname or region in their name, but also try to highlight their business content and specific flavor characteristics as much as possible. For example, "Old Beijing Zhajiang Noodle King" which serves old Beijing noodles, "Jinshancheng Chongqing Hot Pot City" offering authentic Sichuan cuisine, and "Gongdelin Vegetarian Restaurant," from which customers can immediately understand that it is a restaurant specializing in vegetarian food.
Restaurants named after flavors not only make customers clearly aware of their flavor characteristics, making it convenient for them to choose dishes, but also save time, allowing meals to be more targeted.
2. Naming by surname. Using surnames to name restaurants has been around for a long time, such as Tan Family Cuisine, Roast Meat Ji, Goat Knuckle Li, and Dumpling Zhou. These stores not only highlight their surnames in the store name, but also reflect their specific business content in the name. For instance, although it's unclear what exactly Roast Meat Ji refers to, we know the boss is surnamed Ji and itβs a restaurant serving Beijing roast meat. Similarly, Dumpling Zhou would be a restaurant run by someone surnamed Zhou, selling dumplings and porridge. This naming method allows customers to immediately understand the specific business content through the store name.
3. Naming by place name. Restaurants named after districts, counties, or streets of a city are not uncommon. The advantage is highlighting the region, helping customers understand the geographical location and direction of the restaurant, making it easier to find. For example, Zhengyangmen Wine Building should generally be near Qianmen Street. Likewise, Dian'anmen Snack Shop and Xinjie Kou Restaurant should be around Dian'anmen and Xinjie Kou areas respectively. However, it should be noted that due to many duplicate place names in Beijing, special cases need careful consideration. For example, "Sanyuhe Roast Duck Restaurant." There are at least two places called Sanyuhe in Beijing: one is East Sanyuhe in Chongwen District east of Zhushikou, and the other is West Sanyuhe in Xicheng District west of Shehalu Street, with a distance of several kilometers between them. Binhe Road and Shuncheng Street similarly exist in multiple locations in the city. In the past, each city gate (outer nine inner seven gates) had a Binhe Road and Shuncheng Street. To make dining more convenient for customers, restaurants should inform them of the detailed address and direction of their store when naming it.
In addition to the above methods of naming restaurants, there are many other references worth mentioning. For example, using numbers from one to ten or hundreds to thousands to name, like "Yijingju", "Liangyi Xuan", "Sanxian Shaomai Guan", "Si Hai Jiu Jia", etc., following this pattern. There is also the directional naming method, such as East, South, West, North, Center, Up, Down, Left, Right, etc. And the symbolic meaning naming method, such as Fu (blessing), Lu (official rank), Shou (longevity), Xi (happiness), etc. Of course, there are many ways to name a restaurant, but the chosen name should be related to the specific connotation of the restaurant and be practical.
