At the recently held 3rd International Symposium on World-Class Universities, the Research Center for World-Class Universities of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Education of Shanghai Jiaotong University officially released the 2009 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU2009). The ranking lists the world's leading 500 universities, with a total of 18 universities from mainland China making the list.
