Without discussing the methods of various instrument detections, just in terms of visual observation, we can roughly evaluate from the following aspects: first is texture, second is color, third is luster, fourth is skin color, fifth is transparency. Among the above five aspects, except for color, the remaining four are more or less interrelated and interdependent.

Texture is the primary condition for evaluating the quality of Hetian jade. If the texture is good, no matter whether it is white, green, black or blue-green, it should be considered as good material. Only because white jade, yellow jade, and pure black ink jade are rare, their market prices are a bit higher.
