Silicified wood, also known as petrified wood, refers to trees from the geological period that have turned into fossils and been preserved as stones. The distribution of petrified wood in our country is very wide, but especially concentrated in Xinjiang, with a great variety. It can be found throughout the Mesozoic era, from the Late Triassic to the Late Cretaceous periods, dating back approximately 65 to 245 million years, mainly focusing on the Jurassic period around 150 million years ago.
