When our car passed the Baiyu River, we could see many bulldozers working in the river bed. The river channel was no longer clear, engines roaring, people coming and going, just like a huge construction site. There were crisscrossing gullies tens of meters deep everywhere. All the pebbles were neatly arranged layer by layer by manual labor. It was obvious that every inch of land here had been carefully screened by people. In front of us was a more than 200,000-year-old riverbed excavated by bulldozers. The Baiyu River, originating from the Kunlun Mountains, was formed over 50 to 60 million years ago. The Himalayan orogeny caused the jade in China to form three major plates during its formation process: Northeast, Northwest, and Southeast plates. Through long-term comparison and exploration, our ancestors found that Hetian jade was the best among jade materials.
