The Giant Jade is a rare piece of green jade weighing 3.7 tons, which was discovered after having lain dormant in the Kunlun Valley for a thousand years. In 2003, the Giant Jade was transported down from the Kunlun Mountain, and became the most treasured possession of Nuermaimaiti, an elderly jade-loving man from the tenth village of Kaqun Township, Shache County. However, this piece of jade triggered a strange dispute over its ownership. First, because the discoverer of the Giant Jade had "married twice", another person who had also purchased the Giant Jade took Nuermaimaiti to court in a lawsuit over the jade's ownership. Nuermaimaiti won the case as he had legitimate procedures. Then, a leader of Shache County tried to force Nuermaimaiti to sell him the Giant Jade by exerting his authority. After Nuermaimaiti rejected the leader's request, he sold the Giant Jade to Kudus, a jade collector in Urumqi.
