An Ancient Call: Black Jade

Stepping into Zhang Yiping's study, one feels as if they have instantly traveled a thousand years through time and space. The nameless carved pieces appear primitive yet full of spirituality, with forms that are abstract but astonishingly regular. They may be human figures, animals, or tools... Or perhaps, just hollowed-out thin sheets whose names cannot be identified and whose purposes cannot be guessed. These objects bear the traces of the passage of time: their grayish-white or black-gray surfaces exude a calmness from their long existence. A closer look reveals that the worn areas of the surface subtly expose an oily blackness underneath.
