Story One: George Boldt - The First General Manager of Hilton Hotel

This is a true story that happened in the United States: On a stormy night, an elderly couple walked into the lobby of a hotel, wanting to stay for the night.

Unfortunately, the hotel's night-shift attendant said, "I'm very sorry, all the rooms have been booked by groups who came early this morning for meetings. Normally, I would send you to a supporting hotel when there are no vacant rooms, but I can't imagine you having to be out in the storm again. Why don't you stay in my room? It's not a luxurious suite, but it's still pretty clean. Since I have to stay on duty, I can rest in the office."

The young man sincerely made this suggestion.

The elderly couple graciously accepted his suggestion and apologized for causing inconvenience to the attendant.

The next day, after the rain had stopped, as the old gentleman was about to check out, he found the same attendant from last night at the counter. This attendant kindly said, "The room you stayed in last night wasn't one of our guest rooms, so we won't charge you. We also hope that you and your wife had a good night's sleep!"

The old gentleman nodded in approval and said, "You're the kind of employee every hotel owner dreams of having. Maybe someday I can help you build a hotel."
