The Tang Dynasty produced a batch of legendary novels, many of which were "gossip" stories about romance. Interestingly, the literati of the Tang Dynasty even turned the "Cowherd and Weaver Girl" story into entertainment gossip: letting the Weaver Girl leave the Cowherd behind to descend to the mortal world and secretly meet with her lover. The lover asked the Weaver Girl: Does the Cowherd know that you have come down to the mortal world alone? The Weaver Girl replied: What does it matter to him? This piece of gossip, to a certain extent, reflects the sexual openness of the people during the Tang Dynasty. Perhaps influenced by the northern Hu bloodline of the Li Tang family, the Tang Dynasty was probably the most sexually open dynasty in ancient China.
