One day, the author Chetan Bhagat received an email from someone who was attempting suicide. He tried every method to find the writer, Govind, in the hospital and heard the following story:
Govind, Ishan, and Om opened a cricket supplies store. To expand their business, Ishan started a cricket training class, while Govind opened a math tutoring class. Govind tutored Ishan's younger sister, Vidya, in mathematics, and the two secretly fell in love, even though she was under 18 at the time. Ishan met a boy named Ali who had great cricket talent but couldn't participate in strenuous exercise due to a congenital physical condition.
As their businesses grew, Govind leased a new store in the city center, pouring all his money and energy into it. However, just before the store opened, a major earthquake (a real event) struck the area, destroying everything. Later, encouraged by Vidya and her friends, Govind pulled himself together and started over.
Afterward, the India-Australia Cricket League began, and Ishan insisted on training Ali. He decided to take Ali to try his luck at the India-Australia League, where they met Fred, who then offered them the opportunity to take Ali to Australia for training. The three of them took Ali to Australia, and eventually, Ali was invited to immigrate to Australia and join the Australian cricket training program. However, Ali refused the offer because he wanted to play only for the Indian team.
