A legendary tale of human joy and sorrow, a touching song of life and death, "Muron Xuecun's" tragic work, the eponymous play has been performed nearly 40 times in Shanghai. The modern Cantonese opera adapted from this book is about to premiere in Guangzhou, and the eponymous TV series is also ready to start filming.
I am trying to describe the lives of these people, and during the writing process, I often feel that there is something powerful and sorrowful surrounding me. Both the living and the dead are present. Everything seems like an accident, yet everything also seems pre-arranged. All kinds of human experiences are merely a prelude to this drama. But who will be the one to take the final bow?
Muron Xuecun: "At the age of twenty-eight, out of a random itch, I wrote 'Chengdu, Please Forget Me Tonight,' which changed my life forever. At twenty-eight, people have many confusions. Some are unsolvable and become eternal mysteries; others gradually become clear and turn into harmless jokes in life. However, at twenty-eight, I didn't understand any of it, so I was anxious and lost, with a touch of foolish sorrow. But I persisted and finished that story. Readers and friends gave me more recognition than I deserved. In 2003, I told a vulgar story: how a person became rich and how he lost himself. This book is called 'Heaven to the Left, Shenzhen to the Right.' It wasn't successful, but I'm still proud of it because it is, after all, mine."
