The Unethical Deeds of Bai Juyi

Guan Panpan burst into tears when she saw this poem. The reason why she did not commit suicide was that she was afraid that others would misinterpret Zhang Yin as being selfish and letting his beloved concubine die for him, which would instead tarnish Zhang Yin's reputation. Therefore, she had been barely clinging to life these years. However, Bai Juyi actually used a poem to satirize her and forced her to die for her husband. How could she not be indignant? Ten days later, the chaste Guan Panpan starved herself to death. Before she died, she wrote: "Children do not recognize things that can touch the sky, and casually sweat the white hair with blue mud." She responded to the great poet Bai Juyi with her noble death.
