After reviewing 78 scrapbooks that document my career from 1955 to today, I realized that I have met some of the most charming women in the world and was fortunate enough to design clothes for them. These books took me back in time, awakening many memories as if by magic. To date, I have designed five hundred styles and produced twenty thousand pieces of clothing. It is the reputation from this work that has given me such an incredible life.

I have always believed that Eleanor Roosevelt was a very feminine person at heart. I knew she enjoyed stepping into her garden at Val-Kil to cut roses and place them in her guests' rooms. Val-Kil was a small cottage that President Roosevelt had restored for Eleanor so she could enjoy personal time. This was a very feminine gesture, suggesting someone's desire to make others feel welcome. Eleanor Roosevelt made every person, regardless of race or culture, feel this way. This was her strength, the truly beautiful aspect of her.
