Today, news broke that Adobe Photoshop CS4 will bring 64-bit support exclusively to Windows. Adobe has revealed details about the next generation of Photoshop software, version CS4, and the most anticipated feature is its 64-bit support. However, this may not be good news for Mac users, as the 64-bit version of CS4 will only be available on the Windows platform.

Although Adobe strives to maintain a balance of features between the Windows and Mac versions, product manager John Nack stated in an interview that various reasons related to Apple platform support make it impossible to offer native 64-bit support for the Mac version. "We will not release a version of CS4 with native support for Mac," Nack confirmed this news. "64-bit computing will provide Photoshop with significantly enhanced processing power, improving overall performance by 8-12% compared to 32-bit systems, and allowing access to more memory for handling complex images. For example, it can open a massive 3.2GB pixel image up to ten times faster."
