The third set of Renminbi, after 50 years of consumption by time, has seen a gradually growing collector base with decreasing market availability. In the year 2000, it was withdrawn from circulation. Over a span of 11 years, its value steadily increased from 120 yuan to 1980 yuan, averaging an annual increase of 1.2 times without any retracement. Among them, the misprinted 2-yuan "Chelung" (lathe worker), 5-yuan "steel smelting", and 10-yuan "Great Unity" took the lead in creating the appreciation myth of the small set of the third series of Renminbi.

The small set of the third set of Renminbi includes one each of the 10-yuan, 5-yuan, 2-yuan, 1-yuan, 5-fen, 2-fen, and 1-fen notes, and two each of the 5-jiao, 2-jiao, and 1-jiao notes, for a total of 13 banknotes. These all have the last three digits as the same number. Currently, there are still several sets in stock with auspicious numbers such as 6, 8, and 9, available on a first-come-first-served basis.

The third set of Renminbi is the paper currency set with the longest circulation time; it is the most exquisitely designed and printed set of paper currency; it is also the set of paper currency with the most political characteristics, and its collection value is immeasurable.

The small set of the third set of Renminbi consists of 13 notes.
