A Clockwork Orange (UK, 1971)
Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of Anthony Burgess' novel is notorious for its lengthy rape scenes and graphic depictions of violence. In response to media backlash and threats to his family's lives due to these scenes, Kubrick took the drastic step of having the film banned until the day he died.
The Last House on the Left (1972)
Criminals kidnap two young women and force them to sexually assault each other before raping, disemboweling and eventually strangling them to death. Actress Sandra Peabody reportedly suffered severe trauma during the filming of the rape scenes, to the extent that she walked off set.
