As the glory of the Renaissance waned, an artist, philosopher, and lawyer began to transform the sky into a masterpiece. In 1603, John. Johann Bayer (1572 1625) published his celestial map Uranometria in Augsburg, Germany, which included 48 etchings of ancient constellations and one of the newly discovered stars of the southern sky.
