The Story of the Dragon-Taming Arhat:
The Dragon-Taming Arhat, ranked as the seventeenth of the eighteen arhats, was originally based on the venerable Qingyou according to ancient Indian legend. It is said that in ancient India, in the kingdom of Nalanda, the demon king Po Jun incited the people to kill Buddhist monks and destroy temples and pagodas. They also seized all the Buddhist scriptures and took them to the kingdom of Nalanda. At this time, the Sea Dragon King caused a flood that submerged the kingdom of Nalanda, storing the Buddhist scriptures in the Dragon Palace, waiting for a monk with great powers to retrieve them. Eventually, the scriptures were successfully retrieved by the venerable Qingyou entering the palace. Therefore, he became known as the Dragon-Taming Arhat.
