The original murals have been taken to Germany and are now stored in the Berlin Art Museum.

The original meaning of the word Bezeklik is "a house with beautiful decorations". It was originally a temple grotto for monks to practice seclusion and meditation. The whole grotto is composed of two groups of caves, with a total of 57 caves. They are scattered on the west bank of the Moutou沟River and its upper reaches at the foot of the Flame Mountain. The Bezeklik Grottoes were first built during the period of the Qu Family Gaochang Kingdom (499-640).
