In the creation of my Beijing Hutong pencil drawing series, I always spend a great deal of effort on outlining. I often use my favorite wide pencil lines to shade light and dark areas in order to achieve a rigorously accurate composition with free and easy lines. Under the unique brushwork of pencil drawings, with a few touches of飞bai (flying white - a technique in Chinese painting), it expresses the traces left on the Beijing Hutongs after being exposed to wind, rain, and sunlight, leaving an endless aftertaste to the picture.
