Introduction: Since the Internet does not involve face-to-face interactions between people, various types of fraud activities have emerged. Fraud cases using Taobao are also quite common. Recently, a new scam on Taobao has appeared online. Scammers use the pretext of a new store promotion, offering attractive discounts to catch the attention of online consumers. After the consumers place their orders and make payments, the scammers disappear from the Internet after receiving the money.
A netizen named "Tiantian" is one of the victims. Tiantian told reporters that while browsing on Taobao, she saw a women's clothing online shop where the goods were much cheaper than in other online stores. The owner said that due to the opening of a new store, they were selling at low prices to build popularity. They also promised that all sold items would be genuine products from counters, with a tenfold compensation for any fake item. She happily selected the "item" and was about to pay when the seller sent her a message saying that during the store's opening period, all shipping fees would be covered, asking her to wait for the modification of shipping fees before making payment. Three minutes later, the seller sent another message, stating that the Alipay certificate had suddenly broken and could not modify the price. The seller asked "Tiantian" to pay first and then apply for a refund of 15 yuan for EMS shipping costs, and then the seller would confirm the refund.
After making the payment, the seller immediately filled in the shipping waybill number, and the order transaction status on Taobao changed from "waiting for buyer's payment" to "seller has shipped." At this point, the seller sent another message, asking "Tiantian" to enter "My Taobao," find "Items I've bought," click the refund button, and choose the option "no return required." The refund reason should be selected as "Discount or Gift Issues."
After following the seller's instructions and completing the operation, the seller claimed that they would ship uniformly at noon the next day. However, since making the payment, "Tiantian" never received the women's clothing sent by the seller, and the seller has been offline since the payment. Netizens with Taobao shopping experience can easily see that, apart from the 15 yuan shipping fee, the entire order amount has already reached the seller's hands. In this way, the buyer essentially acknowledges having received the goods and agrees to make the payment.
