JavaScript, the technology that serves as the driving force behind many Web functions in the Web 2.0 era, and its standard specification ECMAScript, were once pointed out as needing improvements. This improvement was being worked on by two working groups in parallel: one was the ECMAScript 4 group led by Adobe, Mozilla, Opera, and Google, and the other was the ECMAScript 3.1 group led by Microsoft and Yahoo! Recently, these two groups have reached an agreement and launched the ECMAScript Harmony project, which aims to unify the respective ECMAScript standards of these two working groups to jointly promote the development of JavaScript 2.
