Norton Launches Online Web Safety Checking Service

Norton has recently launched a service to check the safety of web pages called Norton Safe Web. Similar services like McAfee's SiteAdvisor also check the safety of web pages; you just enter the URL you want to check in the input box on the page, and after confirmation, you'll know the safety status of that webpage. However, I personally feel this service is not yet perfect. It only supports this one method of checking and does not provide a client-side application or browser right-click support. While this approach may seem clean, it can also cause inconvenience for users. If it were me, I wouldn't go to Norton Safe Web every time just to check the safety of a webpage. I'd prefer using Dr.Web's Scan Link, which was introduced earlier. At least it integrates into your browser's right-click menu, and it simply calls an online check, so it's neither troublesome nor burdensome for the computer. Perhaps Norton will improve this service in the future; we'll have to wait and see. Another point worth mentioning is that this service seems to poorly support domains beyond top-level domains. For example, if you input a second-level domain for testing, you basically get the safety information of its parent domain instead.
