In the past 20 years, China's indoor environment has undergone drastic changes. People have been exposed to a lot of unprecedented indoor environmental pollution, which is suspected to be strongly associated with the increasingly severe asthma and allergic diseases in Chinese children, but there is not yet enough research results to support this.

To this end, in 2010, Tsinghua University, Chongqing University and other 10 universities initiated a survey on the relationship between Chinese children's family environment and children's health. They have completed questionnaire surveys on the prevalence of asthma and allergic diseases in 48,219 children and their correlations with family environmental factors in Beijing, Chongqing, Changsha, Shanghai, Wuhan, Harbin, Nanjing, Taiyuan, Xian and Urumqi, obtaining a series of important data and some very enlightening results.

The latest issue of 《Science Bulletin》(No. 25, 2013) published a special topic on "China's Indoor Environment and Children's Health", releasing 12 research papers focusing on the above research achievements.
