Trees bear Chernobyl's mark

A study has shown that the Chernobyl accident has had a persistent negative effect on trees in the area exposed to radiation since 1986. "The findings are consistent with many reports of impacts on the genetics of these trees," he told BBC News, "where many of the trees show extreme abnormalities in growth form that reflect the effects of genetic variation and cell death induced by exposure to radiation."
