Let more people use Linux Part II - Ubuntu is finally ready for use today.
Currently, the majority of users in China are still using Windows XP. Therefore, this article will focus on "how to set up a dual system of XP + Linux on a single hard drive."
For beginners, partitioning is the biggest issue, especially when setting up a dual system of XP + Linux on a single hard drive. If not done properly, it could result in data loss or even damage to the hard drive, with serious consequences.
1. Obtain the Ubuntu installation disc
You can apply for a free disc at https://shipit.ubuntu.com. The official team will send it from the Netherlands, which usually takes about four weeks. If possible, it's better to download the image and burn it yourself. Here is a download link for version 6.06: ubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-i386.iso. It's recommended to use a 32-bit system because many software programs do not support 64-bit systems.
2. Preparations before installation
First, prepare a partition specifically for installing Ubuntu. For example, I have designated my D drive for Ubuntu use.
3. Installation
Set the BIOS to prioritize booting from the CD drive. Insert the disc into the CD drive and restart the computer. You will then see the following screen.
