As early as last weekend, Mozilla announced the download of Firefox 8.0.1 on the official FTP Release channel, but the next day, this version was withdrawn due to a serious issue being discovered. Subsequently, it reappeared in the FTP as an RC candidate version. Today, this much-delayed Firefox 8.0.1 has finally been officially released. Firefox 8.0.1 is available for the three major platforms: Windows, Mac, and Linux. If you are using Firefox 8, you can open "About Mozilla Firefox" in the "Help" menu to get the automatic update. Firefox 8.0.1 primarily fixes a bug affecting the Mac OS X version where, under certain circumstances, loading Java Applets via Java SE 6 1.6.0-29 could cause a crash. Additionally, Firefox 8.0.1 also fixes a startup crash bug that affected Windows users running versions of RoboForm below 7.6.2.
