Everyone knows that domain names can be used as investments, bought and sold to make a profit. But have you heard of just holding onto a domain name and still making money? Take a look.
Sex.com was originally registered in 1994 by Gary Kremen, the founder of Match.com. Not long after, it was stolen by Stephen Cohen, and it took Kremen five years to get the domain back. Stephen Cohen later pleaded guilty, but reports claim that Cohen was earning $6 million per year from ad sales revenue on the site alone. The court ruled that Cohen should pay a fine of $65 million, but he eventually fled to Mexico.
