Amazon.com next month is planning to launch Amazon Digital Video, a service that will offer consumers full-length movie and TV show downloads over the Web. According to Advertising Age, which first reported the news Sunday, Amazon will offer two kinds of downloads. One will be via subscription, where users pay a flat fee every so often for unlimited movie watching. The other will be on a per-download or per-movie basis. When Amazon's management was sketching out a download site a year ago, observers speculated that the company would focus on music, but the e-commerce giant has instead set its sights on video because Apple has such a stranglehold on digital music downloads.
