Japanese DMP company previously announced that the Nintendo 3DS is using their developed PICA200 graphics core, which is to unveil the 3DS hardware configuration of the corner. Now further information about its configuration has come to light. According to IGN, sources familiar with the 3DS hardware configuration say that the 3DS will have two 266MHz ARM11 processor chips, a PICA200 133MHz GPU, 4MB of video memory, 64MB of RAM, and 1.5GB of flash memory. We don't yet know what ARM 11 processor the 3DS uses, but we at least have a rough idea of its processing performance. Previous models, including Microsoft's Zune HD player, numerous Android smartphones, and Apple's A4 processor, are based on the ARM 11 architecture. Compared to previous consoles, the 3DS also takes a leap in storage capacity. The 3DS has 1.5GB of storage, up from 256MB on previous DS models, and it can also be expanded with an SD card. On September 29, Nintendo will announce the release date of the new 3DS handheld in Japan, the price and the expected shipments this fiscal year, among other details.
