Yahoo Translation service goes live

BetaNews reports that on Thursday Yahoo launched Babel Fish, the same translation engine used by Alta Vista nearly a decade ago. The Babel Fish page is very similar to the Alta Vista version. Babel Fish was originally developed by Alta Vista in 1997 as the first translation service on the Internet, at that time Babel Fish was able to translate words, sentences, websites into (from) English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian and Russian. The new version is available in five additional languages, including Greek, Dutch, Japanese and simple and traditional Chinese.
