Google Inc. announced Tuesday that it would add a feature to its Google News site allowing searches of newspaper articles going back 200 years. "The idea is to make history available and accessible in its original form," said Anurag Acharya, a senior Google engineer who helped develop the service. "You can see how things were reported as they happened." The archive search feature organizes newspaper articles by year, allowing users to pinpoint a particular date or browse media coverage of an event over time.
