A Reddit user posted a rare photo of the 1998 Larry Page business card, along with the following:

In 1998, I met Carl and Larry Page at a party thrown by a friend of mine at Stanford. Carl gave me an eGroups card and told me that they were hiring. Larry also gave me a Google-looking business card printed on an inkjet printer and told me that they were hiring. My eyes widened. "Who needs another search engine?"

This user's reaction basically represents the attitude of people toward search engines at the time: people don't feel that search engines are useful. And Google's founders have struggled to convince investors that search is a good business. It wasn't until the summer of 1998 that a $100,000 check from Sun co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim became Google's first investment. The funny thing is that Andy Bechtolsheim didn't even hear Page and Brin's presentation before he had to go to another conference, but he had already decided to invest in the two young people.
