Yesterday, Mozilla and ZTE jointly announced that the first smartphone running on Firefox OS - the ZTE Open - will "soon" be available on eBay shelves in the US and UK. However, neither company specified the exact release date, only stating that the ZTE Open will come in an orange casing and as an unlocked version, allowing users to choose different carrier networks.
As Mozilla pointed out, the target market for Firefox OS and ZTE Open are "first-time smartphone buyers." For both companies, their current challenge is to convince customers in the US and UK that getting a new phone with a new operating system is a pretty good idea.
