Mozilla has announced the joint launch of the first batch of FirefoxOS smartphones, the Alcatel ONETOUCH Fire and ZTE Open, in collaboration with its mobile operator partners Deutsche Telekom and Telefónica.
FirefoxOS is a web-based operating system that will integrate the web application marketplace, Firefox Marketplace. Targeting the entry-level smartphone market, over 20 smartphone manufacturers and mobile operators have announced plans to produce FirefoxOS phones.
The configuration of the ONETOUCH Fire is not very high: 256MB of RAM, 512MB of ROM, a 3.5-inch 320x480 display, a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM7227A processor, an Adreno200 GPU, a 3.15-megapixel camera, support for microSD cards, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11, and more.
The hardware specifications of the ZTE Open are basically the same as those of the ONETOUCH Fire. The phone is priced at 69 euros when sold without a contract.
