The architectural firm Architects Collective, based in Vienna, has recently unveiled its design proposal for the Dalian Library. The designers drew their inspiration from Dalian's city flower: the rose (also known as the Chinese Rose). They designed the overall image of the library to resemble a petal of a rose. Several such libraries will be built around the city of Dalian, and when connected, they will form a Chinese Rose in full bloom on the land.

A large spiral staircase will wind its way up around the entire structure. Various kinds of books will be placed along the edges of the walkways, allowing people to browse as they walk. When tired, one can make their way to the reading room at the top floor, find a good vantage point, and take in the nearby bay in its entirety. Moreover, the central courtyard, which is park-like in nature, creates a relaxed and natural environment for the library.
