Two hours’ drive away from the hustle and bustle of Beijing, at the Wisdom Valley in the Jiaojiehe Village of the Yanqi Town, there is a fresh and elegant Libeinyard Book House designed by Li Xiaodong Studio. With mountains behind and water in front, the surroundings are beautiful and pleasant. The building is mainly composed of wood and glass curtain walls. The interior space is simply divided into bookshelves and reading steps. Books are placed randomly and conveniently. People can take down books they are interested in and find a comfortable seat nearby for reading.
In order to make the building blend with the surrounding environment, the designer also introduced firewood commonly used by local villagers, arranging them behind the glass curtain wall to form a fence. In addition to shading and blocking light, some sunlight can pass through the gaps between the firewood, casting rustling shadows onto the interior space, making the book house bright and mild. When the wind rises, there will be graceful and touching shadow effects.
The Libeinyard Book House has now been completed and is freely open to villagers and tourists.
