Pneumatic tires usually work silently and there is nothing wrong with them. However, they are the typical representatives of "rarely making a sound, but startling the world when they do". Once a tire blowout happens, it can be dangerous and troublesome. Since air-filled tires will burst, wouldn't it be great if we don't fill air into them and thus eliminate the trouble of blowout? This is no joke. Bridgestone displayed their non-pneumatic tires at the Tokyo Motor Show.
This kind of tire uses high-strength and elastic heat dissipation plastic materials. The shock absorption performance is similar to that of ordinary tires. But because they don't need to be inflated, they are easier to maintain and there is no need to worry about blowouts. In terms of application, they will initially be used on small electric vehicles on a small scale. However, the green rim of the current tire may get stuck with some sand and stones during the driving process, which is still a thorny problem to be solved.
PS: Actually, Bridgestone's arch rival, Michelin, released a concept for an airless tire called "Tweel" back in 2005, but it is unclear what the status of this product is now.
