Gijs Van Vaerenbergh is a long-term project about public architecture with artistic intention which has been implemented since 2007 and jointly operated by two young architects, Pieterjan Gijs and Arnout Van Vaerenbergh. This beautiful church located in the Haspengouw region of Belgium is part of this project.

Based on the traditional shape of a church, the architects used 2,000 weathered steel plates to build it into a transparent structure that stands 10 meters high. Its unique shape blends perfectly with the light and shadow as well as the surrounding landscape. From the outside, people can let their eyes wander through the gaps between the steel plates, experiencing the marvel of the church seemingly dissipating in the wind. Once completed, the church will become a brand-new artistic tourist attraction in the area, and it has a poetic name: "Reading between the Lines."
