When Steve Jobs made public statements about the iPhone 4's problems and how to address users' concerns, he was criticized for not being apologetic enough. Given Apple's history of satisfying its users with products and services, is this just a case of focusing too much on the individual and too little on his message?

Because this is Apple, the negative media attention is on par with the excitement that people take for granted every time the company launches a blockbuster innovation. Apple is treated with a cult that no other company can even dream of, and that has helped and hurt it.

From a consumer's point of view, it is understandable to expect an apology from Apple, given the cult of personality that the company and Mr Jobs have created around them. Most consumers, though, will care less about the way Jobs said it and more about the message itself: there's a problem with Apple's usually flawless products, and we're going to fix it for free, or refund the money, and hope everyone's happy. So, the end of the matter: for consumers, the next thing is to wait for the next Apple product!
