Samuel Jackson plays Laz, a farmer/pub rocker/religious man, who is upright, headstrong and has a good heart. Christina Ricci will play Rae, a debauched teenager who lives in the shadow of her childhood misadventures and never knows what it means to be clean. Laz picks up the drug-dying Rae from the side of the road and decides to heal her and save her, but Rae is completely unable to understand what Laz has done - chained her up in her room like a dog... The film also stars pop star Justin Timberlake as Rae's boyfriend.
