Richard Avedon was a rather different photographer: he started out in fashion photography. So he took many pictures of beautiful women and celebrities. But he didn't let his work distract him from what he truly wanted to capture: people. He didn’t just photograph models and celebrities, but also ordinary people, people he knew, and even strangers on the street. He worked not only in the studio, but also brought fashion photography outdoors, into political life (such as the 1976 U.S. presidential election), and he even shot on the streets (like New Year's Eve at the Brandenburg Gate in 1989). Therefore, it's not an exaggeration to say that Richard Avedon was a photographer who captured everything. However, his most famous works are undoubtedly his portraits.
